John Philip Sousa Award
John Phillip Sousa (1854-1932) "The March King". A native of Washington DC., he enlisted in the Marines at the age of 13. In 1880 Mr. Sousa assumed leadership of the United States Marine Band �The Presidents Own�. He resigned in 1892 and formed his own group (The Sousa Band). Sousa died in 1932 but left with the world his legacy of band music.
The John Phillip Sousa Band Award is recognized as the premier award for high school band members. Each year thousands of high schools across the country select there most outstanding band member to receive this prestigious award. The recipient is selected on Musicianship, Leadership, Character, and must have at least a 3.0 G.P.A.
